Celtic braced for Kyogo transfer bid as Rennes fee revealed and replacement lined up
RENNES could launch a £10million January move for Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi. And the Hoops could move immediately for Real Valladolid’s £8.5m-rated winger Raul Moro. Rennes head coach Jorge Sampaoli is keen to land him this month in a bid to improve their poor Ligue 1 form. But French reports claim the club’s sporting director Frederic Massara has yet to rubber-stamp a bid. Brendan Rodgers has already stated he wouldn’t stand in any player’s way if they wanted to leave, including Kyogo. But the Hoops are unlikely to entertain any offers for first-team regulars until after their upcoming Champions League games with Young Boys and Aston Villa on January 22 and 29. Japan star Kyogo turns 30 on Monday and remains Celtic’s No 1 striker — but he could look to explore his options and move on. Kyogo, who changed agents last summer, was the subject of £10m interest from Atlanta United in the MLS. They were recently forced to apologise after his signing was announced by mistake. Atlanta are now looking at alternatives, but there is European interest in him, with Rennes among the potential suitors. Currently 14th in Ligue 1, their Argentine gaffer is desperate to add a new striker this month. Kyogo joined Celtic in the summer of 2021 in a £4.6m deal from Vissel Kobe, and has scored 85 goals in 163 appearances. He signed a new deal 18 months ago to stay at Parkhead until 2027, but boss Rodgers insists they are prepared to react if he asks to leave. Celts are already in the market for a new winger this month and could add a striker, even on loan, should the Japan ace exit. But Spaniard Moro, 22, last night emerged as a key target to fill the wide role. Hoops have held a long-term interest in the ex- Under-21 cap, who was in Espanyol and Barcelona’s youth ranks before a move to Lazio at 17. Celts feared Ajax had won the race for his services after agreeing personal terms last week. But that deal has stalled and the Hoops could find out in the next 24 hours if a fresh move for Moro has proved successful. Meanwhile, Como have been linked with a move for Hoops loanee Alex Valle. The big-spending Italians want a new left-back this month and could target the Barcelona kid. Celtic are working on a pre-contract deal for Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney, who came off the bench against Spurs tonight, and may yet land him on loan this month. That could potentially lead to Valle, 20, moving on with Como boss Cesc Fabregas an admirer. Luis Palma has also been the subject of interest from the MLS and La Liga side Rayo Vallecano, who have now had a transfer ban lifted. Kyogo was also the subject of a PHANTOM transfer last week. Major League Soccer was forced to APOLOGISE last week after publishing a story on their official club website saying he was Atlanta United’s new star signing. We also told you how the striker didn’t appear to celebrate as he usually does when he scored twice against Ross County.
