Celtic legend hits back at Rio Ferdinand after Man Utd icon aims brutal dig at Scottish football following Rangers clash
MAN UTD vs Rangers wasn’t just your regular old Europa League clash. It was also Battle of Britain showdown between an English and Scottish football giant. The big match of course sparked an old debate…how would Rangers fare in the English Premier League – and vice versa. Well, a man who has plied his trade in both the English and Scottish top flight put the question out there on social media and asked Rio Ferdinand for his thoughts. The man who posed the controversial query was former Chelsea and St Johnstone man Jody Morris. Writing on X, he asked: “Would Man Utd finish in top 3 of the SPL??@rioferdy5″ It didn’t take long for Morris to receive a response from the Old Trafford legend, who immediately fired back with a comment suggesting his former team would stroll it against the likes of Celtic and Rangers in the Premiership. He said: “Bruno would score 112 goals a season up there.” Ferdinand was of course referring to the man who sealed the deal for Ruben Amorim‘s side in stoppage time. He irked many Scottish footie fans with his cheeky dig and some hit back at him, pointing out the fact things weren’t made easy for them at Old Trafford on the night. But there was one Celtic icon who wasn’t having Ferdinand’s comments either. Chris Sutton, who has lifted both the Scottish and English top flight title – with Celtic and Blackburn – joked that Man Utd would even struggle against the likes of St Mirren on current form. He laughed: “St Mirren would beat Manchester United comfortably.” One fan agreed: “Couldn’t have said it better myself Chris.” Another said: “You tell them!” Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
