Jota ‘could play alongside Mo Salah at Al-Ittihad’ as ex-Celtic star set to stay at club in major turnaround

JOTA is reportedly set to stay at Al-Ittihad despite reports suggesting the winger could be released just weeks after his big-money move. The ex-Celtic star was said to be on his way out of the club in dramatic style to make way for Liverpool hero Mo Salah. The Pro League champions have already spent big this summer to bring the likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Fabinho to the club alongside Jota. And they’ve been in talks with the Anfield club over Salah, sparking talk that Jota’s future in the Middle East is in doubt. The two clubs are locked in negotiations over a potential fee with Liverpool reportedly rejecting a bid worth around £150million for the 32-year-old. It’s understood Al-Ittihad are willing to up the ante, which was seen as a huge blow for Jota. However, according to the Athletic, the manager has performed a massive U-turn and now wants to play the two wingers together. The report suggests the boss is keen to adopt a formation that accommodates both Jota and Salah. But if they can’t get a deal over the line for the Egyptian forward then Jota could be back to square one. The former Hoops ace has yet to start a single league match since the beginning of the campaign and has made five appearances off the bench. The current formation doesn’t suit the winger’s style of play so he will be hoping the club manages to finalise terms with Salah so he can finally kickstart his career in Saudi with the legendary forward by his side.
