Philippe Clement reveals Rangers medical staff told him NOT to start key start vs Dynamo Kyiv
RANGERS boss Philippe Clement has revealed that his medical team told him NOT to start new signing Václav Černý against Dynamo Kyiv. The winger impressed on his ‘home‘ debut for the Light Blues when he scored a fine curling effort which proved to be the winner against Motherwell on Saturday. But he won’t play from the start after the Belgian boss revealed he was advised to bench him. Speaking before the second leg of their crucial UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie, he told Rangers TV: “The only thing is the medical and performance staff advised me not to start with Václav Černý after the minutes he took in the weekend and the minutes before. “[We plan] to give him minutes in the moments when the tempo drops a bit more in the game than in the first half when its full power, so of course after his good minutes in the last game you want to start with him “But those are decisions to make for the moment, we need to make them better and make them stronger. “It’s a logical thing also, he’s also been training with us for a little bit more than one week. It’s a disappointment for the Czech winger who earlier this week he insisted he was ready to start EVERY game. He said: “I feel ready to start every single game, if you ask me. “I just want to use those two days we have now to recover and get in shape again, and I’m going to do my best to be ready. “It’s on the manager, obviously, but I’ll do my best to be ready.” Meanwhile, defender Leon Balogun misses out altogether. The veteran stopper picked up a knock against the Steelmen and isn’t available for selection against the Ukrainians. But Clement insists it’s only a minor injury.
